The time has come…..288 days, 15 hours and a handful of minutes before the start of the most challenging venture I’ve set forth to do….. La Ruta de los Conquistador, 4 days of grueling mountain bike racing across the country of Costa Rica coast to coast that covers over 220 miles with over 40, 000 feet of climbing. Some may say WTF! you can’t do that! Well..I’m gonna give it my best shot…..keep an eye on my blog throughout the next 288 days to follow the trials and tribulations of training for the most epic adventure of a lifetime.

This past Saturday was the Flying Wheels Summer Century presented by Cascade Bicycle Club. The event is staged out of Marymoor Park in Redmond and the routes head towards the small towns of Duvall, Carnation and Monroe. These are typically roads more traveled in the winter months while on training rides when it’s in the mid 40’s. Suffice to say it was really nice to ride these same roads when it is mid 60’s outside. Alex and I opted for the 70 mile ride which was nice and rolling throughout the day. Upon finishing the event we promptly headed over to the Velodrome for a well deserved dog and beer(s) while taking in the sights and sounds of the Little 100 presented by Alki Rubicon Racing. The event was alot of fun to watch….many of the teams were dressed up in costume and doing laps on beach crusiers around the track. Seemed like a good time was had by all the participated and watched the event.
